DOG-FRIENDLY GETAWAYS
Vacation Destination:  Mountains

Resorts in the ranges that welcome your mutt!

As summer fades into a distant memory, nature gives us one heck of a consolation prize -- gorgeous fall leaves and an excuse for a mountain getaway.  If you’re planning a driving tour to gaze at hues ranging from gold and amber to rust and ruby, you no doubt want your four-legged buddy to be able to stick his head out the window with the same awe.  So, in honor of fall foliage season, Doggie Aficionado scoured the peaks from the east to the west to find some mountain retreats that will not only provide you with some stunning vistas, but also boast some positively posh pooch offerings.

ROCKY MOUNTAINS
THE RESORT AT PAWS UP
It's no coincidence that this rustic luxury resort located in Greenough, Montana, what the owners have tagged as "The Last Best Place," is named "The Resort at Paws Up."  Owners Dave and Nadine Lipson got a kick out of how their lovable Rottweiler, Junior, and other dogs greet their parents by putting their paws up as a sign of greeting and welcoming, and decided to welcome their guests in a similarly warm manner.  The animal-friendly naming tradition continued with the recently opened general store; it was dubbed P.U.G.S (Paws Up General Store) with co-owner Larry's (Dave and nadine's son) pug Priscilla being the face of the store.

The resort isn't all talk, of course.  The 37,000-acre property, a vertiable wilderness recreational area, boasts certain homes that make dogs feel at home via a surchage of $50, which covers "Doggie Amenities," like doggie bed, bowls, Nutro food, biscuits, a Paws Up collar and leash, and an outdoor kennel.  Additionally, the spa, Spa Town, offers Doggie Massages on its menu.  If you've booked a massage in your home, your four-legged traveling companion will enjoy a complimentary 15-minute massage to soothe his tired little muscles.
