DOG-FRIENDLY GETAWAYS Vacation Destination: Mountains Resorts in the ranges that welcome your mutt!
ROCKY MOUNTAINS THE BROADMOOR Gambling casino turned upscale resort, The Broadmoor has been a classy getaway since its inception-its first celebrity guest was John D. Rockefeller in 1918. The dramatic backdrop of the Rocky Mountains gives the five-star resort a spectacular setting in which to get away from your worries, and your pooch can come along to relax, too.
The property's founders, Spencer and Julie Penrose, share a love of animals; it wasn't uncommon for Spencer to entertain guests with spider monkeys, otters or bears, and Julie was rarely seen without her poodle, Pitty Pat, after which the resort's Pet Club is named.
Upon arrival, pet parents will be pleased to see their four-legged friends are well cared for at The Broadmoor. Staff members place bedding, food bowls and a complimentary pet treat in the room for your dog. The Signature Shop and Cheyenne Gourmet also sell the items, as well as pet products like beds, leashes and collars--so if you forget yours or want one with a Broadmoor logo, you can take one to go.
The Pitty Pat Club is an exclusive club catering to canines; when you check-in, pet parents will receive a cute dog tag in the shape of a bone with The Broadmoor's contact information in case your pup gets lost, as well as pet-friendly information like hiking trails you can take your don on, a pet menu, and pet care and sitting information. Guidelines, including the $35-per-day charge, are explained, as well. There's even a card to hang on your doorknob so housekeeping knows a pet is in the room. Emergency vet care contact information, including the numbers for mobile doggie docs, is included in the kit. After a stay at The Broadmoor, your dog might giveup your lap for the lap of luxury.
